The Prefect and the Convocation House of the Oxford Neurological Society, upon application of the Fellow for Honours, decided to confer the award of the Honorary Fellowship on prof Jerzy Adam Gracjan Vetulani, a distinguished neuropsychobiologist affiliated with the Jagiellonian University in Cracow and the Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Great author and advocate of neurosciences

The House have decided to confer prof Vetulani on the award because of his outstanding work for the promotion of neurological sciences. His oratory talent and rhetorical skill attracted generations of students and doctors.

Prof Vetulani is an honourable guest of many conferences, inter alia, in the field of neuropsychiatry and clinical neurosciences.

His remarkable speaking style, with a fresh breeze of humour and witty references, make his presentations memorable and engaging. Indeed, his contribution to the popularisation of neurobiology and neuropharmacology is truly unprecedented.

His popular science books are published on a massive scale, yet they disappear from bookshop’s shelves in a speed unrivalled by the velocity of the conductance of myelinated fibres.

The Fellowship will be formally awarded during the next session of the House in May. We are pleased that Prof Vetulani has accepted this award and will be attending the conference.

Update on the state of health

The House has learned that Prof Vetulani has unfortunately been involved in a road traffic accident upon his way back home from the Institute of Pharmacology earlier this month.

We have learned with the greatest regret that Prof Vetulani has passed away shortly after 9 pm Oxford time on Thursday, 6th April 2017. We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family on this very sad day.
